AI Image Editor: Change a Photo by Describing It

VEME's AI image editor changes the photo you already have instead of making a new one from scratch. Upload an image, write what you want changed, such as "make it evening" or "swap the hoodie for a red jacket", and get back the same picture with that change made.

  • One main image to edit, uploaded or chosen from your History
  • Edit instructions that say what to change
  • A painted area or reference images to guide the editoptional

Writing the prompt

How to write edit instructions an AI image editor follows

The Edit instructions box is the one field you always fill in. Short, specific sentences work better than long wish lists.

Clear instructions
  • Name the thing and the change: "replace the grey hoodie with a red varsity jacket".
  • Say what should stay: "keep his face, pose and the wall behind him".
  • Make one or two changes per run, then edit the result again for the next one.
  • Describe light and time plainly: "blue-hour evening with warm string lights".
Vague instructions
  • "Make it better" or "fix this photo", with nothing to aim for.
  • Ten unrelated changes in one sentence.
  • Pointing at "that thing on the left" when two objects could match.
  • Asking for exact text or logos, which may not come out letter-perfect.
Reference images

Show the AI image editor what you mean

Words aren't always enough. Next to the main image you can add reference images, so the editor sees the jacket, product or style you have in mind instead of guessing.

Main image

The photo you want to change. Everything you don't mention in your instructions is meant to stay as it is.

Reference images

Optional extra pictures, like a product shot or a color you like. The uploader shows how many references the selected model takes.

Edit instructions

Tie them together in words, for example "put the bottle from the reference on the table".

Three edit modes

Describe, Area Edit and Annotate in the AI image editor

Each pair starts from one original image. The second image is the same photo after one edit, with the framing unchanged.

Original daytime photo of a glass greenhouse with wooden benches and potted plantsOriginal
Same greenhouse edited to blue-hour evening with warm string lights along the roofEdited

Describe

Type the change and let the editor work on the whole picture. Here the prompt turned daytime into evening and added string lights.

Original photo of a young man in a grey hoodie in front of a colorful graffiti wallOriginal
Same man and graffiti wall with the hoodie replaced by a red varsity jacket with cream sleevesEdited

Area Edit

Paint over only the part you want changed with the brush, then describe the change. Brush Size sets the stroke and Clear wipes the mask.

Original photo of an empty wooden picnic table on a lawn in front of a hedgeOriginal
Same picnic table set for a birthday with a cake, lemonade jug and pastel balloonsEdited

Annotate

Mark the image with selections, brush marks and short text notes like "Add sunflowers here", then add a prompt for the full edit.

The images on this page are examples made for this page to show the idea. Your results depend on your photo and instructions.

FAQ

AI image editor questions

Is the AI image editor free?

Generation uses credits. Sign in and check the cost shown in the tool before running it; account offers and plan details are shown on the pricing page.

Do I need to paint a mask?

No. In Describe mode you only write instructions. Painting is for Area Edit, when you want the change kept to one spot.

Will the rest of my photo stay the same?

The editor aims to change only what you ask for, but it isn't guaranteed. Faces, small text and fine patterns can shift, so say what to keep and compare the result with your original.

Can I edit an image I made earlier on VEME?

Yes. You can choose the main image from your History instead of uploading a new file.

What is the difference from making a new image?

An AI image editor starts from your photo and changes parts of it. To make a picture from a text prompt alone, use VEME's AI image tools instead.
